Vaccine 21 (2015) 1304–1309 Review Vaccines Hesitancy: Factors influencing parents’ decision regarding vaccines Bushra Shaikh A B S T R A C T The intention to delay or avoid vaccines that are recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices can be described as â€Å"vaccine hesitancy.† While outright refusal of all vaccines is uncommon, hesitancy is seen on a regular basis in most primary care offices, resulting in immunization delay and prolonged susceptibility to preventable disease. Vaccine hesitancy also could lead to a resurgence in vaccine-preventable infections. Factors such as social media, past experiences with vaccination services, complementary and alternative medicine, and moral or religious convictions can influence decision-making regarding vaccines. We discuss these factors in detail and suggest interventions to reduce vaccine hesitancy.  © 2014 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved. 1.
